Ownership

We all are products of where and when we were born and the environment and experiences that have shaped us. No matter where we are in our leadership development journey, we have the choice to be the leader we want to be. Taking ownership of ourselves, our health, our emotions, and our decisions empowers us to shape the path forward. Acceptance, appreciation, and action are critical elements of ownership and create the foundation for purpose and growth.

Positive Emotions

As humans, we are predisposed to focus on the negative. Additionally, we are creatures of habit, leading us to create patterns of practice. Where we focus our attention matters. Shifting our attention to positive emotions is critical to our vitality and ability to lead ourselves and others positively.

Positive emotions foster authenticity, motivation, and connection with others, which in turn drives creativity, learning, and innovation. Positive emotions are essential for Positive Leaders to build resilience in self and teams, and to create the conditions for others to flourish.

Other Focused

Often, we look to lead others without true self- awareness. Positive Leaders focus on being their best self to bring out the best in others. When we are stressed or anxious, we are incapable of being fully other-focused, which limits our ability to lead.

Being other-focused allows us to recognize and appreciate individuals and their strengths. Acknowledging others improves our ability to cultivate empathy and leverage different perspectives. Being other-focused enables authentic connections with those around us, providing opportunities for honest communication, trust, and growth.

Authentic Communication

Effective leadership requires effective communication. Positive leaders find their voices and build skills in leveraging words, text, tone and expression through awareness and practice. Honing communication skills improves the ability to adapt to different people, different contexts, and different channels. This is important at any time, but never more so than when delivering challenging messages.
